The Beginning John Randall founded Specialized Printed Forms in
1951. He recognized that an innovative, responsive forms supplier could
make the difference in the success of hard-working forms distributors and
their customers. Our logo, the "Little Red Schoolhouse," symbolizes
the collective genius of Specialized's personnel and production capabilities,
and its cultural attitude for continuously developing new products and services
for customers.
Operating Value System Integrity, product innovation, and market
leadership were qualities that John Randall conveyed personally to his customers
and inspired in his fellow employees. Today, Specialized is well-known in
the industry for producing the unusual, difficult and nearly impossible.
Because of this cultural background, Specialized has served as a product
development site for customers, as well as equipment and material suppliers.
It's often heard said, "When I need to develop a product, I call Specialized
first."
Employees Approximately 150 full-time and twenty part-time employees
work as a team in reliably delivering innovative and complex products. The
average Specialized employee has over twenty years with the company, and
lives within ten miles of the plant in Caledonia, NY. Because of the unusual
production equipment configurations, and market demands for flexible production
cycles, extensive organizational and cross training are a way of life. This
ongoing investment in our work force insures improved reliability of performance
for you.
Strategic Location Caledonia is located just outside Rochester,
NY, which is known as The World's Image Centre, mostly as a result of Xerox
and Eastman Kodak. Rochester Institute of Technology and the many other
graphic arts-related research and development groups located here make Rochester
a mecca for innovations impacting how companies produce images and image-related
systems. Nestled amidst the farms of Livingston County, Caledonia and surrounding
villages support a deeply rooted manufacturing culture, where neighbors,
families and friends build and renew their lives every day, together.
Typical Product Run Lengths Because of our equipment size, we're
generally most competitive in quantities between 25,000 and 250,000. That's
not to discount smaller or larger quantities, as almost a third of our orders
fall outside these boundaries, especially in unusual products.
Customer Base Ninety-nine percent of our business is conducted
with distributors. Though much of our business is conducted in the Northeast,
we regularly support customers across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
Our top fifty customers predictably deliver about eighty percent of our
business, but our customer base over two years totals over 2,000.
Equipment We have fifteen rotary presses (including one with in-line
die cutting or perfing capabilities), ranging from 17" to 28"
print lengths (including 20"), and 20-1/2" to 34" print width.
Nine collators range from four to fourteen stations - many capable of in-line
cross web gluing for pockets and mailer construction. To add even more variety,
we have a continuous-feed Kluge that embosses, die cuts and jumbo numbers
eight sheetfed presses; and a large and versatile bindery. Our computerized
Pic-n-Pac Forms Management systems (including products we manage, but don't
produce) can make the competitive difference for distributors wanting to
become single source suppliers.
Specialty Products & Services Mailers, spot and flood coverage
carbonless OPAS® coatings, pocketed forms, rotary-produced booklets,
blown-on cards and labels, customized Forms Management, an extensive range
of fraud and counterfeit deterrents, and wire binding are but a beginning
list of high value-added products to serve fast changing markets.
